Objective:
The following questions describe the types of information to be discussed during on-campus work sessions with academic units. Written responses to these questions are not required and not all questions are pertinent to your unit. Any other facility related information or concerns not specifically addressed below would be appreciated. Work session participants are encouraged to bring copies of programs, reports, or studies addressing programs and their future delivery methods or facility impacts.
Academic Space Needs Work Session Outline
1. What change in enrollments will occur in your division/unit? Will they likely reflect the overall campus enrollment trend? What changes in enrollment or enrollment mix will occur in your division/unit as a result of changes in program offerings?
2. How is your staffing likely to change in response to any changes in student enrollment (faculty, other professionals, support, student workers)?
3. What new programs are being contemplated by your unit and what are the facility implications of these potential offerings?
4. Will distance learning or continuing education have any bearing on future enrollment trends or instructional expectations?
5. How are instructional delivery methods likely to change over the next decade? What new information and learning technologies do you expect to use? How will these impact space needs and/or staffing patterns?
6. What facilities issues do you currently have with classrooms, laboratories, open laboratories, offices, or other spaces? What units are impacted negatively by current space quality? What are your specialized facilities needs, if any?
7. Are your students expected to use instructional facilities (i.e., classrooms or laboratories), outside of class time? If so, how many hours per week per student and for what activities does this occur?
8. What types of research activities are currently conducted on campus by your unit? Are research activities likely to change over the next decade? What facilities impacts do you foresee?
9. What groups/units could function better if they were located adjacent to other groups/units?
10. Is your current location satisfactory? If not, what campus location would be better and why?
Administrative Space Needs Work Session Outline
1. How is your staffing likely to change in the future? Which units have current or expected future staffing deficiencies?
2. What new functions are being contemplated by your units and what are the facility implications of these potential changes?
3. What new technologies do you expect in the next ten years and how will their implementation impact space needs and/or staffing patterns?
4. Which units appear to have serious space needs or issues? Which units appear to have surplus space?
5. What groups/units could function better if they were located adjacent to other groups/units? How should your units be clustered physically?
6. Which units could function better if moved to a new location?
7. Is your current location satisfactory? If not, what campus location would be better and why?
8. Which units would be able to be located on the campus perimeter and not affect delivery of services?
9. How well do you think your divisions serve the academic mission?
10. What things could happen to improve your level of service to your constituents?
