Board of Trustees Presentation

The purpose of this presentation is to update the Board of Trustees on the progress of project.

The University of North Carolina Charlotte is embarking on the development of a comprehensive campus master plan. The University has retained the Baltimore firm of Ayers Saint Gross to guide the process. The first phase of the plan is Observations where the design team collects information about the campus. This first meeting is intended to gather the views of the Board of Trustees about the future of the campus.

The team has met with 13 focus groups representing a cross section of the campus community. Some of the issues that have come up during the discussions include:

•          Vehicular circulation on campus
•          Signage and way finding at interior and exterior of campus
•          Dining facilities
•          Campus interaction with surrounding community
•          Visitor parking access, signage, and campus experience
•          Crime
•          Need more academic space: auditoriums, large classrooms, lab space
•          Need more faculty office space
•          Football program and Light Rail on campus (traffic, parking, land use, etc)
•          Need conference facilities/gathering space on or near campus for special events
•          Lack of strong landscaping/seating areas on campus
•          Traffic during peak times especially at campus gateways and deck exit points
•          Need additional recreation space
•          Student housing
