UNC Charlotte Master Plan: Sustainability Workshop
Date: April 22, 2008
Time: 8:00AM-4:30PM
Location: Cone Center, Room 268 (Behind Afterhours)

8:00-8:10 Introduction and Meeting Intent (Peter Franz, UNCC)
UNCC Facilities Planning will introduce the attendees, go over the agenda for the day, and explain the purpose for the Sustainability Workshop.

8:10-8:30 Overview of Master Plan (Kevin King, ASG)
ASG will present the Master Plan schedule and process, initial campus observations, and any relevant comments from the focus group meetings.

8:30-9:15 Update on UNCC (David Jones, UNCC)
UNCC Sustainability coordinator will present an overview of where UNCC currently stands in its regard for sustainability on campus and the plans to expand sustainability initiatives on campus.

9:15-9:45 Sustainability Overview (Keith Bowers, Biohabitats)
Biohabitats will present an overview of what sustainability means on campus, why it is important, and the important aspects involved.

9:45-10:00 Break

10:00-10:30 UNCC Perceptions (All w/ Dana Perzynski, ASG as Facilitator)
ASG will facilitate an exercise where all workshop participants will share their initial thoughts on what people value and perceive as significant about the UNCC campus in regards to sustainability. Participants will compare individual thoughts of where the campus is today.

10:30-11:00 Initial Site Observations (Ted Brown, Biohabitats)
Biohabitats will share its observations from their recent site visit in regards to the campus’ ecological promise and potential.

11:00-11:30 Transportation Overview (Don Bryson, MAB)
MAB will present an overview of how transportation issues relate to the sustainability initiative on campus and what potential actions could assist in its success.

11:30-12:00 Regional/State Environmental Issues (Mecklenburg County)
A representative from Mecklenburg County will share current county, region, and state wide initiatives that have been developed or are currently being developed that would relate to sustainability on the UNCC campus.

12:00-1:15 Lunch Dialogue
Draft Master Plan Sustainability Goals Part I (All)
All attendees will begin to brainstorm sustainability goals for the master plan after reviewing the current mission and vision for UNCC Sustainability

1:15-2:00 How Green Is Green? (Kevin King, ASG & Ted Brown, Biohabitats)
ASG will present a range of campus precedents in regards to what other schools are doing to become more sustainable in the design and operation of the campus.

2:00-2:30 Updated Perceptions (All w/ Dana Perzynski, ASG as Facilitator)
ASG will facilitate a continuation of the morning exercise by accessing individual’s perceptions of the UNCC campus following the afternoon’s presentations and discussions. Participants will compare individual thoughts of where the campus could go in the future.

2:30-4:00 Draft Master Plan Sustainability Goals Part II (All)
Following the presentations and discussions from the afternoon, all individuals will continue in drafting sustainability goals for the master plan. Participants will also work together to develop the approach and strategies for obtaining these goals

4:00-4:30 Next Steps & Conclusion (Kevin King, ASG)
Participants will discuss what actions UNCC and each consultant will take in developing the goals for the Master Plan and specific information to gather by a certain date.
